TDS
and ESMMI announce the upcoming release of HelpLinker
New
productivity tool that makes implementation
of context-sensitive help easier than ever
January
9, 2000 - TDS and ESMMI, developers of help authoring tools,
announce the upcoming release of HelpLinker™, leading the
way to a new era in the development and implementation of
context-sensitive help systems and user assistance.
Context-sensitive help is help that users access from within
an application. It provides specific information at precisely
the place in the application where the user wants to find
it. Context-sensitive help offers the most immediate response
to the needs of the user. Despite its enormous value, confusion
surrounding the process used to implement context-sensitive
help sometimes prevents companies from building it into their
products. Help authors and programmers often fail to find
a common ground and are unsure of their place in the implementation
picture. The worst-case scenario is that context-sensitive
help is completely bypassed and, in the long run, everyone
loses.
Without an industry solution for easy implementation of context-sensitive
help, software developers and help authors find themselves
at a loss. Which product will free the help author from dependence
on the programmer? Which product will truly allow the help
author to concentrate on the help and not on the tool? This
complexity has raised the need to develop a tool which makes
context-sensitive help easy and fast to implement in applications.
Other help authoring tool developers have come a long way
in simplifying the context-sensitive help process, but HelpLinker
offers the easiest approach. HelpLinker is the only tool that
lets help authors link help topics to their software programs,
without the need for source data from the software manufacturer,
or to compile. The author creates the help, either WinHelp
or HTMLHelp topics in any standard help authoring tool, and
using HelpLinker links the topics to the application. Firstly,
the author imports the help file into HelpLinker, and then,
with the HelpLinker's advanced CaptureLink™ technology, captures
screen elements and links the help topics to them simultaneously.
This is done using the simple drag-and-drop technique.
Yigal Rahamim, Director of Sales & Marketing at TDS, says:
"We find HelpLinker one of the most promising auxiliary help
tools for the help author. The author can take full control
over the entire process of creating and implementing the help.
He/she can work completely independently, and can create and
implement a fully functional context-sensitive help. The short
learning curve of the program lets the help author focus on
writing the help, not figuring out how to use the tool."
